Antique Japanese gyosho bako, or merchant's chest, in a tall and slender style with many drawers. It is made of kiri (paulownia) wood with a dark brown lacquer. The drawers bear an emblem faded from age, perhaps once used to label the contents inside. The very bottom drawer has an iron locking plate. Edo age (1615-1867). Antique Japanese tansu made from Keyaki (zelkova) wood with a deep red lacquer and a gorgeous woodgrain. It has a central vertical lockbar with ornate iron decorations over two large drawers, with squared handles. Key included.

Antique Japanese Two Section Kansai area Choba Tansu. Many drawers, and two sets of sliding panels. Miniature version of a regular size two section tansu, making this piece rare for its size. Beautifully finished hinoke wood throughout tansu, with dark iron locks, handles, and fixtures. Tansu comes with original key that unlocks door on bottom right. Antique Japanese two-section Cho-ba tansu (merchants chest) made from hinoki (cypress) wood. Its top section has two large sliding panels with beautiful molded handles and three small drawers. The bottom section have multiple drawers, some with brass keyholes that have been etched with attractive designs, and two more sets of sliding panels.
