Antique Japanese Kansai Area Issho Tansu
A large Kansai area issho tansu made from keyaki and sugi woods. Copper handles are used on the sliding door panels and a special cabinet with a lock is set on the bottom area of the chest. Tansu such as these were often placed in the private quarters of the home and clothes, family documents, and important objects were placed inside. Japanese Choba from Sakata Prefecture
Japanese choba from Sakata area, Japan. Made entirely of Keyaki wood (elm) with burl wood. Heavy iron hardware, including elaborately cut lock plates with square shaped handles, the side has warabite shaped handles. The pulls for opening the sliding panels are inlaid with mother of pearl and edge with carved persimmon. Interior has one shelf. Well crafted joinery and tenons original lacquered finish in excellent condition.

Japanese Rare Keyaki Kuruma Wheeled Tansu
Antique Japanese kuruma tansu (wheeled storage chest), the front is keyaki (zelkova) wood with sliding panels with horizontal slats, interior has a full width shelf and two small drawers on the right side, the bottom portion has three drawers and a locking bar (with key); one full width drawer and two smaller drawers side by side, beautiful original lacquer finish, heavy hand forged iron hardware.

Antique Japanese Table with Motifs of Dragons
A sublime square japanese export table decorated with scrolling clouds, flora, and rising dragons. The intricate and detailed carvings were popular during the Meiji period when most of Japan's fine arts and crafts were being exported to the West. Beautiful antique Japanese cha tansu (tea chest) made of beautiful burl keyaki (elm) wood all over with original lacquer finish. Drawers of various sizes with heavy iron hardware with hirute shaped handles, side handles and four locks. Two compartments with sliding panels. Antique Paulownia Three Section Kasane Tansu
Antique Japanese, three section kiri or paulownia wood, stackable tansu. Each section has wrought iron fittings and hardware to stack the tansu and protect the tansu from damage. An antique Japanese kuruma tansu coming from the Mikuni region. The tansu is fitted with iron fittings to retain the condition of the tansu and to protect the vulnerable areas of the chest.
