Rare and beautiful Japanese gyosho bako (merchant's box carried on back) with three sections. It is made of a kiri (paulownia) wood with original dark finish, the front of the box has ornate bronze hardware in the shape of chrysanthemum petals, locks and extensive back bracing all made out of iron. Beautifully carved throne chair with a gorgeous deep reddish lacquer, with carvings of dragons and billowing winds into its back, dragon heads serving as the arms and front legs with painted glass eyes. The back of the chair features a large spiral leaf, smoke-like carvings along the top and sides, and a small lower panel with fleur de lys carving and a cloud border. Medium-sized Japanese tansu made from kiri wood (Paulownia), with five drawers in varying sizes and two sliding panels at the upper portion, with straight vertical bars carved into the face. Warabite style metal handles and hardware. Size: 23.75" height, 25" length, 13" depth

Japanese fune bako, or ship safe box, made from keyaki wood with its original lacquer. The top of the box has iron hinges and a warabite handle, which opens for storing calligraphy stones. The front has three drawers, one with a large iron lock.
