An unusual Japanese Kyogen theater mask of a dog. Kyogen is a major form of classical Japanese musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. One of the oldest major theatre art still regularly performed today. Overall in good condition with original finish. Mounted on steel plates and armature wire presentation.

Antique Japanese Maneki-neko, Meiji 1868-1912. The Maneki-neko is a beckoning cat often seen at the entrance of a shop or other business and thought to be auspicious. Hand formed with Ceramic in good overall condition. It measures 11" wide at base 16" tall.

Antique Japanese hanging scroll of a monkey dancing the sambaso dance. It bears two seals, reading 'Genno,' Two seals, one for whom painted the monkey, the other who wrote the calligraphy. Haiku / Waka Poem made for the New Year. Taisho Period (1912 - 1926). It measures overall: 17" wide by 76" long, image: 14.5" wide by 43" long.

Antique Japanese velvet painting "Yuzen Birodo". It is a beautiful image of Mount Fuji with a small town on a lake, the foreground is full of water lilies. It bears a seal in the bottom right of the image. Yuzen Birodo or velvet painting was a technique made popular during the 17th century. The artist would work using a special process of dying where the image is created in the weave of the fabric thus creating an image of rich colors. Japanese antique two section large choba tansu (merchant's chest) from the Kansai area, made with hinoki (Japanese cypress wood) with a beautiful natural finish. The top section has sliding panels made with keyaki burl (elm) and 4 drawers. The bottom section has 3 large drawers and another set of sliding panels with horizontal slats. He is sometimes called the Japanese Picasso because of his prolific multi media creative work. He was part of the sasuka-hanga movement and the mingei, folk art, movement.
