Chinese hanging scroll of a monochrome painting of plum blossoms by Wu Hao (1948~). Wu Hao, started his education in Western art. Later, Wu Hao studied under Zhao Shao Ang, and studied the styles of the four great painters of the Song Dynasty, which he became noted for appropriating and utilizing the style in his works. The inscription found below the painting describes of how the artist was inspired to produce this painting.A rough translation of the inscription reads: During the early summer of the year of the earth sheep (1979), the artist was awakened from his sleep in the small chamber from the fragrant smell of the plum blossoms. Being in the mountain hall, the master was inspired by a work done by Ming Wang Qian of an image of plum blossoms done in ink. The artist goes on to discuss how the noted Song poet, Wang Ting Jian (1045-1105) would describe the view of the landscape with the plum in the cold. Age: Circa 1979.
