Wonderful Japanese antique bronze figure of fisherman and ancient tortoise. Having just rescued the tortoise, the kind fisherman kneels on the rocks by the side of the water as he prepares to release the tortoise back into the waves. Modeled with much care and attention detail from the compassionate expression on the face of the fisherman to the detail on the underside of the tortoise's shell. The skin of the fisherman has a gold color patina. Meiji Period c1900. Size: 9" high x 11" long
