Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
An antique Japanese 2 section Kyoto Mizuya Tansu (kitchen chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Keyaki (Zelkova) woods. Constructed using mortise and tenon Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails. Original hand made iron hardware with Hirute handles. Side ribs accentuate the exterior design and add strength and durability for years of lasting enjoyment. Stylized Obi (Kimono sash) silhouettes in hand carved panels to the upper sliding doors with bronze handles designed in a stylized Chrysanthemum. The bottom section has a full width shelf for split level storage.

Contemporary function includes using it as an elegant room cabinet for linen storage or separating the sections using the bottom as a buffet and hanging the upper section above as a matching wall cabinet.
