Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
A fine example of an 18th C. Tibetan painted leaver hide over hardwood trunk. Original hand forged fifties are in place. Along with original ring an loop style hinged top. Top hinges open to reveal open storage area. Very sturdy in construction and can hold up to modern day use without issue.
Beautiful naturally aged patina consistent with early age. Hand made pigments are clearly seen. Painted over a leather hide that was shipped and molded over the hardwood solid construction.
Dramatic and detailed dragon is seen for-front center.

In Tibetan Buddhist mythology, however, dragons and nagas are distinctively different creatures. Tibetan dragons are protectors of Buddhism whose thunderous voices awaken us from delusion.
