Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
Gorgeous antique Chinese porcelain footed bowl decorated in the doucai technique with 8 sacred Buddhist objects around a central floral medallion. The outside of the bowl is painted with a lush density of scrolling vines and flowers. The doucai technique allows for controlled details and vibrant colors as the outlines are first painted on as a blue underglaze and then fired. After this step, the colors are applied using lovely enamel overglazes and the object is fired again at a lower temperature. The bottom of this bowl has a Qianlong mark in blue underglaze (c1711-1799). It is our opinion that it is mark and period.
