Late 6th Century Northern Qi Dynasty (550 - 577) buddha carved of limestone. The three dimensional standing form is mounted in a custom weighted base for display. Right arm creates negative space between the torso as well between each feet. Textile is comfortably hangs with pleaded folds fans out around lower body. Tightly culded hair neatly formed. Losses to right shoulder and right hand at wrist. Partial loss of fingers on left hand.
Calm resting buddha with smooth planes and distinctive tightly curled hair and downward gaze. During the Qi dynasty there was a revival of ceramics pieces as well as stone works. Original patina and weathering to the stone consistent with age.
