An antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware with naturally acquired patina. Used by a store owner to keep business supplies, money and valuables, store business records and writing tools. The hinged security door has two small drawers of which the bottom drawer hides a secret box.
