An unusual antique Japanese kawari kabuto samurai helmet. Elaborate zunari style helmet with dark burgundy lacquer over iron plates. Very rare and distinctive feather like shape as each five individual feather shaped sections flow back in a symmetrical fashion.
The shikoro (neck guard) consists of multiple lacquered iron plates, laced with dark fabric, designed to provide protection while allowing flexibility. Some losses to the lacquer, consistent with age. Overall presents very well and magical shape and silhouette.
