Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
Rare antique Japanese folded panel iron jingasa samurai hat. Featuring a overlapping and rivit folded panel construction, giving it a distinct ridged appearance. Has a striking silhouette of what could be mount Fuji.
The segmented design reinforces the structure while keeping the helmet lightweight for mobility. The surface has a matte, oxidized patina consistent with age.
The small holes along the sides were likely used for securing a lining or chin strap, ensuring a snug fit during wear. Unlike lacquered jingasa, this iron variation would have been worn by higher-ranking ashigaru (foot soldiers). Overall very good condition.
