Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
Small antique Japanese taiko drum (太鼓). Handcrafted with a solid brul keyaki wood body and tacked leather hide drum heads, secured by hand-forged iron studs along the edges. The drum has a deep, resonant tone and was traditionally used in ceremonies, festivals, and theatrical performances.
The drum rests on its original wooden stand, which has a well-worn patina, reflecting its history of use. The stand is designed for stability, allowing the drum to be played at an angle.
