Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
An antique Japanese large bronze hibachi (brazier) featuring many mythical creatures. The main image in relief on both sides are Baku or dream eaters standing nearby old pine trees. The two side handles are a pair of parental Komainu (aka Fu Dogs) with their four offspring acting as feet to support the hibachi. Along the shoulder are flying Phoenix birds with their tails trailing behind. The neck of the hibachi has a reticulated geometric design not often seen in bronze hibachi design.
