Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
A tall cylindrical porcelain umbrella stand, hand-painted in a vivid Imari-style palette of iron red, cobalt blue, and soft gilt yellow on a white ground. The design features a central panel with flowering prunus and peony branches, framed by stylized cartouches and surrounded by an allover chrysanthemum motif. The top and bottom rims are bordered with a classic cobalt blue band of lace-like floral decoration. Made in China, circa 1950, this piece reflects the mid-20th century revival of Qing dynasty decorative styles intended for export and domestic markets alike.
