Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
Japanese antique scroll painting of a seated Buddhist priest. He holds a fly whisk in his hands. His walking stick for pilgrimages rests against the back of his chair and his red slippers sit on a lacquered footrest. He is draped in a kesa of sewn-together sections of orange and gold cloth. Buddhist calligraphy is written on the upper portion of the image. On the outside of the scroll is a written title "Daiosho Gendo Toru" which generally translates as "Great Priest of the Profound Path"
Painted in ink and mineral colors and gold on silk.

Age: Edo/Meiji Period (early/mid 1800's)
