Japanese antique carved wooden figure of a frog (kaeru). Kaeru, which also means "to return", are associated with luck and good fortune. Figures of frogs are given as gifts to those who travel so that they may return safely home. Frogs are considered messengers and represent prosperity, fertility, and the coming of Spring. This kaeru is carved with details of bumpy skin, lacquered eyes and has an artist's signature on his belly.
