Japanese antique carved wooden figure of the famous monk, Bodhidharma. Well known for his intense demeanor, Bodhidharma (Daruma) stands with eyes wide and long robe flowing around him. Bodhidharma is the Indian monk credited with founding the Zen tradition of Buddhism. Daruma figures represent perseverance and are believed to bring good fortune. This figure is especially detailed and has a movement to it as if his robes are being blown by the wind. Carved of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood.
