Japanese antique very large and intricate painted Garbhadhatu (Womb Realm) mandala scroll painting. This scroll has as it's center, the seated figure of Mahavairocana (the original Buddha) who is always nurturing all beings toward enlightenment. Used by esoteric practitioners as a tool with which to actualize their own enlightenment through ritual and meditative identification with the deities of the mandala. This mandala, along with the Diamond Realm mandala, were used as an important teaching device and ritual instrument in esoteric Buddhism, Shingon and Tendai traditions.
Each figure and being is different and carefully painted in mineral colors with gold details on silk.
