A Very rare an extraordinary antique Japanese Kuruma tansu (wheeled chest) made of kirinoki (paulownia) wood. Extremely rare design, Most possibly a tansu from the Akita Castle.
All original including the finish and hand forged iron fittings. Top hinged lid over a thin flat compartment, sliding door compartment locked door reveals inner drawers, bottom sliding door compartment has key that reveals small drawers. An antique Japanese casante (stacking chest on chest) tansu in 2 sections made of kiri (paulownia wood). Original hand forged iron hardware with oversized round handle plates. As always beautiful joinery including straight dovetails and age consistent hardened wood nails.

A vintage Japanese Geta Bako (chest for shoe storage) made of Tochinoki (Horse Chestnut) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. Two sliding doors hide a storage area separated by 2 removable wood shelves. Bottom drawers provide additional storage. The Geta Bako was traditionally used at the entrance to a Japanese home to allow family members to remove and store their shoes before entering the home. Single section Mizuya (kitchen buffet tansu) with set of four sliding Keyaki panels opening to a open space with a single removable shelf inside. Lined along the bottom are a set of 5 pull out drawers with beautifully finished quartered sawn keyaki drawers.
Hand forged iron hardware. Natural blond finished with fine carpentry details. Overall in very good condition. Ready to go!

A Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) Japanese Kannon Biraki Tansu (Wedding Kimono Chest) made of beautiful aged Kiri (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) wood. The top section has two hinged doors with a special lock from the inside that secures the inside of the door.

When open the doors reveal two large drawers where the bride's kimono were stored. The bottom section has two large drawers and a hinged door that hides two small drawers where valuable hair ornaments and other treasures... Click for details

Finished with red and black negoro lacquer finish. Hand forged iron hardware including hirute drawer pulls and round lock plates.

A rare edo period Japanese choba (merchants) tansu from the Niigata perfection in Japan. Made of solid keyaki hardwood (including the back). Finely detailed hand forged iron of a flying crane and longevity turtle seen amongst the pine and bamboo. The lower two drawers depict a lock and drum. Stunning original finish with warm tones. 8 drawers in total each of there own size. Two small drawers with unique pull rings tucked securely behind the locking bar.
