Antique Japanese ikebana basket (for flower arranging). Squat, round body with tall arching handle. Woven of split bamboo. The handle is comprised of sections of bamboo twisted together like a rope. It attaches to the wider, bottom section of the basket made in the same technique. The upper portion of the basket is made of flat sections of bamboo woven in a repeating horizontal chevron pattern. Japanese Antique Kiri Wood Hibachi with Gold Lacquer Fish
Antique Japanese small round hibachi carved of kiri (paulownia) wood and lined with copper. It is decorated with a still-life display of a fishing basket, fisherman's rod and the catch of the day. Beautifully captured in raised gold maki-e lacquer, the fishing basket and fish have a life-like appearance. The large fish that has just been caught glitters with inlaid shell. And could that be Ebisu's hat on the ground nearby?

An antique Japanese large rare Ema (votive prayer board) hand painted in Makie gold over a black lacquer background. A hand forged iron pin mounted to the top center of the frame was used to securely hang this dedication sacred object at a Japanese shrine.

Japanese Antique Tsuba with Puppies
Antique Japanese iron tsuba (sword hand guard) decorated with mixed metal gold and silver inlay. One side show a scene of a small dog playing with a grass hopper amidst grasses and flowers. In the distance are mountains topped with gold. The reverse side is signed by the maker and shows a scene of a small sleeping dog curled up in the bamboo by a stream.

A very rare example of an Antique Japanese iron samurai chest armor (dou) with Fudo Myo-o. Made in the five plate, four hinge go-mai chest armor sendai or yukinoshita style. On the breastplate, Fudo Myo-o, one of the five myo-o or Lords of Light stands with sword in hands, the flames of his nimbus swirling around him as he stands on churning waves. Japanese Antique Figure of Amida Nyorai on Lotus Throne
Antique Japanese figure of the seated Amida Nyoria (Amitaba) Lord Buddha. He is seated on a lotus throne, his hands in his lap in Dhyan Mudra (meditation). Carved of wood with gilt lacquer and traces of pigments on the lotos throne. His hair atop his subtle ushnisha is arranged in sweeping striations instead of the tight curls more commonly seen. His heavily lidded eyes are inset with glass or crystal and his facial expression radiates a calm stillness.

Antique Japanese ceramic Oribe-ware fan-shaped dish. Glazed with a crackle white slip, deep olive-green and brown glaze and decorated with a pair of birds. Slab construction with fabric texture. Cut outs to suggest the ribs of the fan. Stands on three small loop feet. Signed and with tomobako.
