Gorgeous Korean screen with a light yellow silk background with cream designs of flowers and stems, with eight panels depicting a group of hunters on horseback, carrying spears, swords, and trumpets and hunting boar, wildcats, and pheasants. The scenery is very subtle with pastel colored bushes, and the hunters wear bright and bold clothing, creating an eye-catching contrast, 18th century. Korean mask for use in dance performances widely known as talchum or Yangju Pyolsandae Nori. Though these dances vary by region, they all share common themes such as exorcism, ritualistic dance, satire, and parodies of wealthy upperclassmen and would often be performed on the day of Buddha's birth and other seasonal festivals. A refined Korean Buncheong celadon vase. Buncheong refers to the technique of incising a repeating pattern on the clay surface and white clay is filled in creating a strong contrast of greys and celadon colors with the white lines. Antique Korean bowl from the Chosun Bunchung period, 16th century. The bowl has a spiral like pattern left in the clay showing the bowl was done on a wheel. It measures 5.5" wide 4" tall. This bowl came from the collection of George C. Heikes and Myung-ja Heikes. Their collection was assembled from 1963-1964 when Mr. Heikes was working as a mining engineer and geologist for the US Government in Seoul, Korea. A large Buddhist scroll painting of the Amitabha triad where Amitabha is attended by Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta. The bodhisattvas are adorned with elaborate accessories often seen in images of bodhisattvas. A fairly large Korean style Buddhist painting portraying the image of the Water Moon Avalokitesvara or Suwol Gwaneum in Korean. The Avalokitesvara is dressed in vestments and accessories common to the figure of a Bodhisattva and has the water vessel which offers blessings to all sentient beings. The bodhisattva is attended by a boy figure known as shan nanzi who often seen in pictorial and textual depictions in East Asian Buddhism. Age: 20th century. Size: height 105.5" width 53"
