An antique Japanese Kannon Biraki Tansu (wedding Kimono chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. Upper section features two hinged doors that secure two large and two small drawers. Behind the bottom small drawer is a secret hidden box where important valuables were kept. Bottom section has two full width drawers for additional storage. Constructed using Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails.

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (stacking 2 section chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Kakute handles. Full moon lock plates with quarter and semi-circular front drawer corner plates that accentuates the theme. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails. Each section has side carrying handles. Upper section has side locking pins to secure the sections in place.

An antique Japanese Choba Kuruma Tansu (wheeled merchant chest) made fo Keyaki (Zelkova), Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware and Urushi lacquer finish. Drawers were made using Kakute handles. Lock bar added additional security for the 2 full width center drawers. An antique Japanese Nihon Matsu Kasane Tansu made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware and acquired natural patina. Features Warabite style handles with Plum Blossom knockers (called Atari) used as an audible deterrent when thieves try to open a drawer. 4 large drawers for Kimono storage and a hinged door behind which 2 drawers kept valuables safe. Made using Japanese joinery techniques and hardened wooden nails.

A Japanese 2 section Tansu chest called Isho-dansu made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Original bronze hardware. Upper section features 2 sliding doors behind which is a shelf. The bottom section has 2 large full width drawers for additional storage. Originally used to store silk Kimono, its present day use as a daily dresser works well for the contemporary home.Age: Mid Century 1950-1960

Antique pair of bronze candlesticks in the form of two young Chinese boys. Dressed in traditional formal Chinese robes, the children each hold an elaborate two tiered candlestick in the form of porcelain bowls. One boy holds a fan while the other holds the corner of his robe. Elegant and detailed.

Antique Japanese suzuki-bako, calligraphy box. Lacquered with a profusion of wildflowers in gold maki-e technique on black lacquer ground. The underside of the lid is beautifully preserved with more wild flowers growing near a swirling stream. This scene is also rendered in maki-e but includes some flashes of red leaves and a silvery moon on a black lacquer ground with clouds of nashiji. Antique Japanese mounted carving of a group of 6 flying bats. Sculpted with detail and lacquered gold, the group moves together through the air like a small cloud. Mounted and framed in a plexiglass shadow box. Bats are symbols of prosperity and good luck. This carving was most likely part of a larger temple decoration.
