Japanese antique lacquer inro with five reserve scenes of landscapes and implements most likely representing the Seven Lucky Gods. The inro has rounded edges and is almost oval in form. Unusual Antique Japanese lacquered Low table
Antique Japanese low three legged natural slab top table. All surfaces are covered by layers and layers of lacquer. Top is finished smooth revealing each layer. The Japanese lacquer technique of layering multiple thin coats of lacquer on a substrate is used to create low tables, or zataku, and other decorative objects. The technique is called wakasa'nuri and involves applying various shades of lacquer and then sanding it down to create a natural pattern.
