Antique Chinese Wedding Bed
Large antique canopy wedding bed, originating from Indonesia for the Chinese market. Elaborately carved with gilt reticulated panels depicting various animals, flora, and mythical creatures along the top front of the canopy, with gilt filigree along the side posts. The legs are carved as scrolling dragons and birds in red, black, and gilt lacquer. A shelf runs along the canopy back with side compartments. Early 20th century.

Chinese Jade Hongshan Culture Pig Dragon (Zhulong)
Chinese Neolithic Hongshan Culture small jade carving of a pig dragon (zhulong) used as a burial object. The dragon is curled in an "embryonic" position. The bottom portion is carved in the form of an insect with large protruding eyes. The dragon portion of the jade is mottled green while the bottom portion is orange in color being closer to the outer rind of the jade stone.

Japanese antique 2-section choba tansu from the Gifu area. This merchant's chest is made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood and has extensive horizontal wooden slats on the sides for support. The top portion of the chest has sliding panels with horizontal slats which match the sides and one full-width drawer. The larger bottom section also has sliders with horizontal slats and 5 drawers of various sizes. There is small safe box (with key) on the lower right hand side which opens to 2 small... Antique Japanese choba tansu, merchant's storage chest. This front of this tansu is made all of keyaki (elm) wood with original translucent lacquer finish and dramatic grain. The top portion has 2 sliding panels. The middle portion of the chest has a pair of large sliding panels which open to a compartment with one shelf. The right hand side and bottom portion of the chest are made up of 7 drawers of various sizes and a compartment with a drop in door panel.

Unusual Thai architectural sculpture known as a chofa. These beast-like ornaments embellish temple and palace rooftops as a symbol of power and protection. Natural patina and remnants of red and gilt lacquer show antiquity. A photo is shown to demonstrate how a chofa would look while still in place on a temple roof. The temple shown is in Chiang Mai, the largest and most culturally rich city in Thailand.
