Antique Japanese 2 section isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Nihonmatsu area. Made with keyaki (elm) wood with dramatic grain and original deep reddish orange translucent lacquer finish. The chest is made up of four large drawers and a safe box in the lower right hand side which has two small drawers behind a locking safe door (with key). Antique Chinese large cabinet. Beautifully lacquered with scenes of birds and flowers in gold on a red lacquer ground. Large doors open to reveal a compartment with two shelves. The top shelf has two small built in drawers. The sides of the cabinet are lacquered black. Dates from the 18th century. Size: 70 1/4" high x 44" wide x 20 1/4" deep.

Antique Japanese tansu chest, made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. The tansu has four large drawers, the bottom two of which are locked with a vertical locking bar also made of kiri wood. The two top drawers have wonderful large iron lock plates in the shape of peony flowers with raised flower buds. The corners of each drawer are reinforced with chrysanthemum shaped ironwork. Charming Chinese acrobat in a handstand atop a natural rootwood base. The acrobat is hand carved out of boxwood. He wears shorts tied at the waist and a pair boots. His hair is tied back and he has a goatee. Very finely carved. It is from the Ching Dynasty, 19th century. It measures 27 tall, about 18" wide at the base. Excellent original condition.
