The container is carved in the form where the figure is sitting inside a jar while the other is has the distinct eccentric smile seen in images in sages. The Japanese name is Hozuki, while in English it is known as either Japanese Lantern or Winter Cherry. The motif symbolize the height of autumn and the plant is often used in flower arrangements.
