An antique Japanese root wood composed of many intertwined pieces of various root woods including Keyaki, Hinoki, Kuruminoki, Tsugenoki, Honoki, Sakura, and Wisteria. Beautiful finish in a blackened soot with a Urushi lacquer top. Used for Ikebana and Tatehana.

Antique Japan Buddhist temple Taiko dragon drum 1800s
Playable Antique Japanese Buddhist temple hanging lacquered drum. Gold and black lacquer with deer skin hide. Base is secure with four indepenent feet. A round gold gilt flaming archway ascends above the trum. Black lacquer over wood. With hand forged iron nails neatly holding down the tight skin.

An antique Japanese large Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. Four large drawers for merchant textile storage on the left and seven utility drawers with 2 sliding doors and a hinged door hiding 2 small drawers on the right side. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Hikute style handles. Originates from the Osaka region of Japan.

Perfect for use as a buffet chest or sideboard.

Antique Japanese Tansu Chest Tohoku Merchant Storage
An antique Japanese Tansu chest from the Tohoku region of Japan used for merchant organizing and storage. Made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods and finished using a wiped lacquer technique. 14 drawers total with the bottom two having lock plates where valuables were kept away from prying hands.

Kakute style handle pulls with Tohoku lock plates designating its origins. A functional chest where merchant wares could be easily stored and retrieved.

Antique Japanese Tansu Chest Matsumoto 2 Section Meiji
An antique Japanese Tansu chest from the Matsumoto region of Japan made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. Lock plates feature an incised Kiri (Paulownia) leaf Mon (family crest) and drawer pulls fashioned in the Mokko design with elaborate back plates. Upper section has 3 drawers and lower section has 2 drawers used to safely store valuable silk kimonos.

An antique Japanese portable storage box for tea ceremony accoutrements. Made almost entirely of Kuwa (Mulberry) wood, it has a bamboo carrying handles. Lift out door opens to a storage compartment with a removable split level shelf. Four drawers of varying sizes were used to house an assortment of tea ceremony paraphrenalia. All original including the bronze hardware.
