Antique Japanese Buddhist Abbott's Folding Chair
Antique Japanese Buddhist abbot's oxbow arm folding chair. Made of red and gilt lacquer hardwood, with seat made of leather. The backrest has gilt lacquered panels with geometric motif carvings and pierced lingzhi carving, the reverse of the backrest marked with a triple mokko-mon (family crest). The edges of the chair are decorated in metal plating incised with motifs of chrysanthemums.

Japanese Print of a Woman, Shiko Munakata
Japanese print of a woman holding a calligraphy paint brush, by Shiko Munakata (1903-1975). A zen Buddhist, he worked in oil painting, then woodblock printing, calligraphy and ceramics. He is sometimes called the Japanese Picasso because of his prolific multi media creative work. He was part of the sasuka-hanga movement and the mingei, folk art, movement.
