Antique Japanese Two Panel Calligraphy Screen
Unusual Japanese 2-panel calligraphy screen with highly stylized brushstrokes, bordered with silver leaf and silk. The left character reads "Gi" (or Righteousness); On the right reads "Dao" (the path or way). The inscriptions appear to mean "Righteousness must always be pursued".

Japanese Antique Gilt Copper Temple Lantern
Antique Japanese Buddhist Temple lantern made of gilt copper with a wooden interior armature and iron handle. This six sided lantern is decorated all over with ornate pierced karakusa, scrolling arabesque filigree. Both top and bottom of the lantern have six trapezoidal friezes, each with a three dimensional medallion in it's center depicting alternating crests of blossoms and Buddhist symbols. The interior is lined with it's original paper.

Japanese Tall Ikebana Basket
Japanese antique tall ikebana basket, made of split bamboo. This basket has an elongated square body separated into two different treatments. The upper portion of the basket is woven in a diagonal criss cross pattern while the bottom is woven with straight vertical pieces. The handle is made of twisted wisteria branch sections. The front of the basket is also decorated with a branch of gnarled wisteria.

Antique Japanese Signed Ikebana Basket
Antique Japanese ikebana (flower arranging) basket, very finely hand-woven with thin strips of bamboo. Its form is narrow towards the mouth of the basket and flutes slightly towards the squared base, with four knot-woven feet, and the frame of the basket is reinforced with thicker bamboo sections, secured with tight coils. The handle is formed by natural Wisteria burl root. With hand inscribed signature on the base.

Large Pair of Carved Transom with Squirrel and Grape Motifs
A very large pair of hardwood transom / temple architectural elements, elaborately carved with charming motifs of squirrels eating from grape vines. The carvings are deeply recessed with raised outside edges of a scrolling form. Realistic grape vines and leaves continue along the underside of each transom. Very heavy. (pictured with a tansu for scale. not included)

Antique Japanese Noh theatre mask of a young woman, or Onna. Hand-carved cypress wood with katabori chisel mark patina. Her face is hand-painted in dimensional flesh tones, with blackened teeth, red lips, and wisps of hair.
