Japanese Woodblock Print by Kawase Hasui, "Kanetsuke Hall Bell Tower"
Japanese woodblock print entitled "Kanetsuke Hall Bell Tower, Okayama" by the artist Kawase Hasui. The bell tower stands high above the other rooftops as the rain falls on the street below. I figure with an umbrella can be seen in the distance walking with an umbrella. The wet street reflects the latticework of a window. With black 6mm seal. Publisher: Watanabe Shozaburo. Produced during the lifetime of the artist.

Japanese Antique Bamboo Kakehana Wall Vase with Quanyin
Antique Japanese carved bamboo kakehana, wall vase for flowers. This section of bamboo has been carved with the figure of Quanyin (Kannon). The Goddess of Mercy is seen floating amidst storm clouds, ribbons of lightening streaking across the sky around her. There is a small rectangular hole in the back of the vase so it can hang from a hook or nail in the wall.

Japanese Antique Bronze Candle Holder with Handle
Antique Japanese Buddhist candle holder with long handle. Made of bronze and incised all over with an octopus vine motif. The chalice shaped stand sits on a chrysanthemum shaped foot and has a candle pricket that is hinged so it closes when not in use. A long handle is attached to one side so it can be carried.

A very large example of an antique Japanese Baku corbel used in a temple or shrine. The Baku is a mythical spiritual creature which resides in the Buddhist realm. Its purpose is to devour evil spirits as well as one's nightmares. Carved from one solid block of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood, this architectural sculpture has stood the test of time.

A pair of Japanese vintage bronze temple lantern. Each lantern is made of 3 sections, the base, the light housing and the crown. The crown has a scalloped rim with heart shaped designs and a beautiful finial. The housing has an arabesque design and the base has matching heart shaped designs and a upper hexagon shaped platform with a design of 2 pine needles representing longevity that changes into a stylized infinity symbol.

Japanese Antique Dai Woodcarver's Block
Antique Japanese craftsman's block. Made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with two fan-shaped handles. Thought the term dai usually refers to plane blocks, this block also functioned as an important tool or surface for a serious artisan. It is unusual in that it is carved with a rectangular opening on the underside, a customization possibly to help hold it in place while in use.
