Japanese Seto ware umanome "horse-eye" dish. Also called ishizara (stone ware) this type of sturdy plate with it's iconic iron oxide glazed circular motif would have been used in a rural inn to serve hearty food to travelers. An appreciation for the natural beauty of items made and used deftly by practiced hands became popular through the Mingei movement in the 20th century.

An antique pair of Japanese ceremonial boxes made of wood and decorated in natural Urushi lacquer and mother of pearl (Raden). All original hand forged iron fittings. Calligraphy writing reads "Kameyama, Kawara Town, Sweets Shop, Made by Hataya Yasushige." Family crest is shown on opposing sides of the boxes.

Antique Japanese natsume tea caddy in gold maki-e lacquer. The design is of fans, each with a different picture ranging from pine trees and huts to birds and a wheeled carriage. Various gold and polychrome lacquer techniques used. The inside glitters with a fine, dense nashiji.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest known as a Gifu Choba Tansu in 2 sections made entirely of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original hand forged iron fittings and natural aged patina. Upper section has two sliding doors behind which business records and books were stored. An antique Japanese Buddhist temple altar offering table made entirely of Keyaki wood. Original bronze hard mounts used to reinforce the Japanese joinery. Removable top used to freshen the look of the table when burns from incense and candles affect its appearance. All sides of the table have a design taken from the Chinese 5th Century Tang Dynasty.

Pair of Japanese Porcelain Seated Hound Dogs. White ground coat with whimsical cloud like patterns in gold, russet, and black. Alternating color collar tied behind the neck with gold bell. Finely rendered teeth and tongue. The impressive scale for the pair, each is sitting with mouths open.

Japanese antique lacquer inro with a scene of a pavilion built over a lake. The inro is in five sections (four compartments) and is lacquered entirely in fine gold maki-e. The scene wraps around the case and displays the detailed buildings nestled in a lush garden. On one, side a tree with large red flowers extends over the water.
