This fan would have been used to shade from the sun and to signal troops. Though this shape of fan was not used as a weapon, it could have come in very handy in battle and there are legends of samurai heroes fighting with nothing but their war fans. Mounted antique Japanese 16th century carved hardwood temple fragment from Japans old growth forests. Depicting a pair of herons, king fishers, sparrows, fish, and front sitting amounts the blooming lotus flowers at waters edge. Mounted and ready to be enjoyed. An antique Japanese large Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sakura (Japanese Cherry) woods. Four large drawers for merchant textile storage on the left and seven utility drawers with 2 sliding doors and a hinged door hiding 2 small drawers on the right side. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Hikute style handles. Originates from the Osaka region of Japan.

Antique Japanese set of folding Buddhist shrine doors. Made of wood and lacquered black with accents in gold lacquer and green mineral pigment. Extensive gilt copper hardware incised with scrolling vines. The doors are in four sections: two sets that are hinged together and close with a single latch in the center.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest from the Tohoku region of Japan used for merchant organizing and storage. Made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods and finished using a wiped lacquer technique. 14 drawers total with the bottom two having lock plates where valuables were kept away from prying hands.

Kakute style handle pulls with Tohoku lock plates designating its origins. A functional chest where merchant wares could be easily stored and retrieved.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest from the Matsumoto region of Japan made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. Lock plates feature an incised Kiri (Paulownia) leaf Mon (family crest) and drawer pulls fashioned in the Mokko design with elaborate back plates. Upper section has 3 drawers and lower section has 2 drawers used to safely store valuable silk kimonos.

Antique Japanese extra large Buddhist temple bell (bonsho). It's dramatic size is accented with relief details of apsara (celestial beings) and flowers. The large handle is in the traditional form of dragon heads and upper protrusions called Chi or Nyu improves the resonance of the sound when struck.
