Antique Japanese small kobako (incense box) with inside tray. The outside is decorated with a scene of a garden fence, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and daisies in gold lacquer on a nashiji ground. The interior is covered in fine nashiji. The small tray stands on tiny feet and has a pavilion scene with twisted pines all in gold lacquer on a matching nashiji ground.

An exquisite antique Japanese large box made of keyaki (elm) wood burl and decorated with a design of a bamboo garden gate, tall grasses, chrysanthemum blossoms and the moon. Very high raised maki-e lacquer in gold and red with shell inlay. Tied with it's original tassel and with tomobako. Provenance: from a family living close to Kyoto's Imperial Palace.

Meiji Period (Mid 19th century)

Dimensions: 10 1/4" high x 10" wide x 12" deep.

Japanese 2 section Kiri (paulownia) isho tansu, or clothing chest of drawers. With hand forged iron hardware and pulls with chrysanthemum studs beneath. The top and sides of each section are branded with a medicine gourd bottle signature.

Antique Chinese unmounted scroll depicting a scene of various types of birds including crows, song birds, pheasants, quail, ducks and sand pipers. Painted in mineral colors on silk.

Antique Japanese scroll painting of a hawk standing on the branch of an oak tree. The hawk is detailed with great attention to every feather. Painted in sumi ink and light colors on paper. Signed Shunkei with seal, possibly Mori Shunkei (1775-1841).

Japanese antique scroll painting of the Lucky God, Ebisu. He sits on a rocky shoreline with his fishing pole in his right hand. Tucked under his left arm is a giant fish.
Ebisu is the Japanese god of fishermen and luck. He is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune (七福神), and the only one of the seven to originate purely from Japan without any Hindu influence.

A long Buddhist religious painting, the top corners with remnants of the fixtures once used for hanging from the ceiling so both paintings are visible. One side of the cloth is painted with hanging human and animal skulls and skins intertwined. Skeletal faces of the Citipati hang amongst the human heads, their skeletal form serving as a reminder of the impermanence of life and eternal change. Chinese hand scroll painted with landscape scenes, ink on paper. The first panel has a bold calligraphy preface signed with two red chops. The central panel is the longest with misty landscapes, signed Yi Long with three red chops. The last panel with small calligraphy inscription and three red chops. Scroll includes silk lined storage box.

Antique Korean single section bedside chest, with book matched front panels of hardwood burl. Four drawers line the top of the chest with brass handles in motifs of butterflies. The front of the chest features a pair of doors with a large brass central plate and brass butterfly hinges.

Antique Japanese scroll painting, with an arrangement representing a bounty of good fortune. Fish top a bushel of rice and are tied with roped straw in an auspicious presentation meant to bring in a bounty of fortune. Adding to it, three of the Lucky Gods make an appearance in miniature, treating the decoration as if it were a boat or their ship of good luck. Sumi ink on silk. Dates from 18th century.
