Early yari are believed to have been derived from Chinese spears, these hoko yari are thought to be from the Nara period (710-794), and while they were present in early Japan's history, the term yari appeared for the first time in written sources in 1334 but this type of spear did not become popular until the late 15th century.

The forked arrowhead (karimata) was named after its resemblance to the V-formation flight of wild geese. Such arrows of different sizes were highly prized on the battlefield and for hunting large game. Antique Chinese carved jadeite snuff bottle. The stone is speckled with variations of green including small striations of a brilliant apple-green color. The flattened globular formed body is carved with peony flowers on one side and lotus blossoms and birds on the other.

Antique Korean two section stacking personal chest with base. The front is made with hardwood burl (probably mulberry). Each section has a large compartment opened by two hinged doors. Silver colored hardware is made of chased brass.

Antique Cambodian ceramic container for storing honey. The jar is topped with a pointed finial lid, the sloping edges of the jar body incised with ridged motifs. The dripping brown glaze stops above the flattened foot, left in bare ceramic.

A Sumatran carved burl wood container. The lid is kept securely shut by strung cord with turquoise beads. 19th century

Chinese round porcelain jar as a cricket container with mottled red and white glaze. The lid is wood carved with the auspicious Shou symbol for ventilation. The foot tapers slightly and is glazed in white.
