The tatami armor was used by foot soldiers, archers, and spearmen. Its a lightweight armor which allowed the warriors to be more swift and fluid with their movements. It is also an economical munition armor as a alternative to the traditional lace scale construction. Going to battle was costly and this gave the clan army full protection from all levels of warfare.

Chinese blanc de chine porcelain figure of Quanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion. Her delicate expression with lifelike detail, pierced nostrils and ears, and carefully incised hairs, her crown depicting the Amitabha Buddha, her flowing gown draped over her form, her hands clasped together holding a small vase with the elixir of life, the vessel tipped over so the waters may wash away the suffering of the mortal world. The interior of the figure is hollow from underneath.

Pair of Architectural corbels of mythological elephant baku’s are commonly placed under the eaves of Japanese Buddhist temple and Shinto Shrines to wore off evil spirits. The baku’s devour dreams and nightmares and protector against evil. Stunning antique Japanese two panel folding silver leaf screen. Oxidized silver leaf on layered gofun paper, mounted on Hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood lattice construction. Wonderful original condition with no tears or condition issues. Unframed to give a more deconstructed esthetic.

A dark blue hemp fabric forms the base of these kote sleeve guards. The upper area is covered in iron chain mail with pair of double gourd plates, crest mon, gilt iron plates, throughout the kote. The shoulder edge has three hinge plates to fashion to the Do armor. Unusually mounted on a custom black iron stand.

Topoke spear currency. Forged iron mounted on black iron stand. Equatorial Region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Large forged blades such as this in the shape of a spear point were well used in the middle of the 20th century. As currency and during marriage ceremonies, they are known under several names; Di hunga (small form), doa the larger example spear form. The sacred standing buddha is a Abhaya mudra posture of buddha. Its missing right hand still evokes its meaning which imparting fearlessness and reassurance. The fragmented crowned head and ursna has deteriorated as a symbol of its meaning illusion over ignorance. The buddhas eyes are complete and inlaid with mother of pearl and stone.
