Japanese antique single section kannon biraki choba tansu (merchant's chest with opening doors). Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. The doors open to 5 drawers and a compartment with sliding panels. The iron hardware has a deep reddish brown lacquer finish and includes a large round lock and cross bracing on the front, round locks and hirute shaped handles on the drawers, and side handles for carrying.
