Luang Prabang Period Laos Bronze Rain Drum
An unusually large size bronze rain drum from Laos, a Herger type three drum. Reference material “The Karen Bronze drum of Burma” by Richard M. Cooler. It has an unusual 3 frogs (twelve altogether) on top with a ten pointed star with continuing concentric circle and stamped designs. The side has three elephants and three snails representing water and fertility. A globular flared body rises with four attached frog design handles.

A 20th Century example of a tradition laos rain drum cast in bronze. Three frogs (12 altogether) on top with a twelve pointed star with continuing concentric circle with stamp decoration. The side has two short vines with a feaf design. snails representing water and fertility.

The Hindu water creature has the head of an elephant/deer and the body of a crocodile (or water monitor) giving it a dragon-like/serpentine appearance.
