Small Black Lacquer Japanese Tansu
A compact black lacquer Japanese tansu, Meiji Lacquered ugi (cedar), and kuro-me (lacquered) woods. This small-format chest features an sliding panels, sets of drawers and locking hinged compartments, all framed with hand-forged hardware in floral and geometric motifs. The sliding doors at the top are adorned with delicate carvings of pine branches and chrysanthemums, symbolizing longevity and renewal.

Japanese Antique Kiri Kannon Biraki Tansu
Japanese antique single section kannon biraki choba tansu (merchant's chest with opening doors). Made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. The doors open to 5 drawers and a compartment with sliding panels. The iron hardware has a deep reddish brown lacquer finish and includes a large round lock and cross bracing on the front, round locks and hirute shaped handles on the drawers, and side handles for carrying.
