He is associated with wealth and prosperity and is commonly portrayed seated upon bales of rice surrounded by mice, which symbolize plentiful food. They both have square tops with a swirling wind design blowing silver and gold leaves about, oriental designs along the top rim, and beautiful flower designs along the outer rim. Beautiful Japanese cloisonne vase with a deep, navy blue sky, a mountainous valley decorated in flecked earthy tones, a pinkish, dreamlike river flowing along the bottom, and many variations of chrysanthemum flowers. Extremely detailed pair of bronze statues of guardians to the Buddha called Niō or Kongōrikishi. While Buddhism usually promotes pacifism, the Nio guardians are said to have justified the use of physical confrontation to fight back against evil. Nio are typically placed on either side of a temple door.
