Antique Japanese bronze usubata, container for ikebana flower arrangements. The upper vase section has a wide, round rim decorated with a diamond-lozenge shaped pattern similar to the the hishi mon of the Takeda family. The body of the container is ringed with raised bands and tapers to a narrow stem which sits into a stand held up by three arching feet with waves.

This unusual me-no-shita type (half face, literally “under the eyes”) samurai mask features a fine hammered surface that is embossed to create lengthy, deep, and sharp wrinkles across the entire face. The nose is rather large, and the chin has a very rare natural split indicating samurai had this as well as is indication menpo made by Myōchin armorers.

Large antique Japanese original playable taiko drum. Constructed of knarly burl keyaki hardwood, deer skin, and hand forged iron hardware. Warm honey finish, nice contrast to the dark iron hard mounts. Makes a great deep sound, ready to be enjoyed! Could make for an interesting side table with glass.
